StudentsBuild: LA Promise Fund

We believe in the power of mentorship! This season, we have been inspired by the USC Big Ten Championship Women’s Soccer Team and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels from the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group Run-DMC & Jam Master Jay. We are excited to launch our very first Girls Build project to support our school community by expanding student access to literature and academic enrichment opportunities. This incredible initiative allows us to empower our community by fostering a love for reading through community events. Together, we will keep uplifting others, building confidence, chasing or dreams, and creating meaningful change that reaches beyond the classroom.

Girls Who Read scholars explored USC and engaged in an unforgettable college experience! From exploring the historic Rawlinson Stadium as well as the beautiful libraries offered on campus, our girls got a glimpse of the collegiate life while embracing mentorship through literacy.

We aim to prepare students for high school, college, and beyond by providing access and exposure to various literacy resources and opportunities. This year, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels is investing in our school community by motivating our students to pursue their dreams through tangible actions. Together, we will achieve our goals!

Through their experiences, our girls are eager to bring access to literacy to their own school communities—empowering others to read, dream big, and create opportunities for themselves and those around them through our StudentsBuild community initiative!

Our mobile literacy cart brings books, literacy tools, and academic support resources directly to students! This cart is designed to make reading more accessible, fostering a love for literacy in every scholar, and bring joy to our school.
